Building a Greener Tomorrow: European Future 3 Meets in Limassol

Following a successful first meeting in the historic city of Cologne, Germany, the European Future 3 project recently convened for its second exchange in the sun-drenched coastal city of Limassol, Cyprus. This Erasmus+ initiative brings together students and educators from Germany, Bulgaria, and Cyprus to tackle one of the most pressing issues of our time: Sustainability.

Throughout the week, participants transitioned from classroom theory to real-world observation, exploring how environmental responsibility, history, and international cooperation intersect.

Understanding the Cycle: Fast Fashion & Circular Economy

The academic heart of the week centered on seminars held at the local host school. Students delved into the complexities of Fast Fashion, analyzing its significant environmental footprint and the social challenges within the global garment industry.

The sessions didn't just focus on the problems; they pivoted toward solutions through the lens of the Circular Economy. Using digital research tools and collaborative workshops, students brainstormed ways to transition from a "take-make-waste" model to a regenerative system.

Global Education in Action

Day three saw a specialized workshop led by the WAVES Foundation for Global Education. This session pushed students beyond their comfort zones with intensive problem-solving tasks. By working in multinational teams, students practiced critical thinking and cross-cultural communication—essential skills for the next generation of European change-makers.

Connecting with Cypriot Heritage

Sustainability is as much about preserving the past as it is about protecting the future. The group traveled to the capital, Nicosia, for a deep dive into the island's rich and complex history.

The Leventis Municipal Museum: A guided tour provided vital context on the cultural evolution of Cyprus.

The Green Line: A visit to the UN buffer zone offered a sobering look at the island's division, reinforcing the Erasmus+ mission of building bridges and fostering European unity.

Cultural Exploration: From a city tour of Limassol's landmarks to a behind-the-scenes look at local culinary arts, students fully immersed themselves in the Cypriot way of life.

A Bittersweet Farewell

The week concluded with a formal Certificate Ceremony and a celebratory farewell dinner. As students received their participation certificates, it was clear that the project had achieved more than just academic goals.

"We came here as representatives of three different countries, but we leave as a single team with a shared vision for a sustainable Europe."

The European Future 3 project continues to prove that when young people collaborate across borders, they don't just learn about the future—they begin to build it.

Next Stop: Our journey continues as we prepare for our third and final meeting in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Stay tuned for more updates on our path toward sustainability!

European Future 3 - A Sustainable Reality- 06.10.25- 10.10.25

International Project Mobility in Cologne - A Week of Action and Insight

The recent project mobility for European Future 3, an inspiring Erasmus+ partnership focused on sustainability, brought students and teachers from Germany, Bulgaria, and Cyprus together for a transformative week in Cologne, Frechen, and Brussels. Hosted by the Nell-Breuning-Berufskolleg in Frechen, the meeting combined cultural exploration, in-depth seminars, policy visits, and creative production.

Day 1 & 2: Launch, Learning, and Planting the Seeds of Change

The week kicked off with a cultural immersion as the international group explored Cologne with a city tour, taking in the historical atmosphere of the Old Town and the stunning Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom).

The next day, the students transitioned to the classroom at Nell-Breuning-Berufskolleg for their first seminar. Working in international teams, they chose the official project logo—a beautiful design symbolizing hands from partner countries protecting a sapling—and engaged in deep discussions on sustainability, youth environmental awareness, and eco-anxiety, analyzing texts from influential figures like Greta Thunberg.

An Act of Commitment: Planting a Tree

The highlight of the in-school session was a concrete act of commitment: the students collectively planted an apple tree ( a symbol of knowledge, strength, and health).  This hands-on activity embodied the project’s theme: "Growing Together for a Sustainable Tomorrow." It serves as a living symbol of their shared dedication to a greener future.

Day 3: Policy and Politics in the Heart of Europe

The focus shifted to the highest level of European cooperation with a learning trip to Brussels, Belgium.

At the European Parliament

The group visited the European Parliament to gain firsthand knowledge of how the European Union functions and how policy decisions are made. This visit brought the concept of European citizenship and democracy to life, showing students the direct connection between their project and the legislative process.

Expert Conference on Sustainable Transport

A key part of the day was an engaging conference on Sustainable Transport and Tourism. Students met with and heard insights from three members of the European Commission: Nora Kovacheva (Bulgaria), Ruta Bickauskaite (Lithuania), and Thomas Lancien (France). This provided a crucial link between local project ideas and pan-European strategies for green travel and tourism.

The educational trip concluded with a short cultural city tour of Brussels, including the magnificent Grand Place and a quick stop to see the iconic Manneken Pis.

Day 4 & 5 :  Creative Action and a Fond Farewell

Video Production for a Wider Audience

The final working session was a burst of creativity. Students collaborated in their international groups to plan, film, and edit short videos on key sustainability topics. This hands-on task challenged them to become effective communicators, translating complex ideas into engaging content for a wider audience.

Certificate Ceremony and Celebration

The mobility officially concluded with a heartfelt Farewell Dinner and a formal Certificate Ceremony. Every student was recognized for their participation, collaboration, and hard work throughout the week. The ceremony was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the cross-cultural friendships forged and the significant steps taken toward achieving the project’s goals.

The "European Future 3" project team leaves Germany energized, with new knowledge, strong international bonds, and a reaffirmed commitment to sustainability.
